Ways to Play Ohio Pick 4

One of the main features of Pick 4 it the variety of different ways you can play. For every ticket, the player gets to pick their own win-conditions. This affects the odds of winning, prizes, and one play-type affects the cost of the ticket too, so they're worth knowing about!

Straight
Straight Bet

To win, you must match all four drawn numbers in exact order. This play type has the lowest odds, but the best prize. You can choose to get a ticket for $0.50 or $1.

Box
Boxed Bet

To win, you must match all four numbers, but the order does not matter. The odds and prizes for this play type change, depending on how many duplicate numbers you've picked more on that in a bit. You can choose to get a ticket for $0.50 or $1.

Straight/Box
Back-up Bet

Back-up bets are a combination of Straight and Boxed bets. Tickets cost either $1 or $2, and you can win the Boxed prize by matching your numbers in any order, or both Straight AND Boxed prizes by matching them in the exact order.

How many Ways will you play?

We mentioned that the odds and prizes for Boxed plays change depending on the numbers you pick. The reason for this is simple: When you make a box play, you're essentially betting on every possible combination of your numbers. However, you can make 24 combinations from 1234, and only 4 combinations from 1112, meaning 1234 is six times more likely to win you a prize!

The number of combinations you can make is known as the number of "Ways" you play, and there are 4, 6, 12, or 24 Ways. Lower ways have lower odds, but to balance things out, the lower numbers also have much bigger prizes!

The table below shows examples of the different Ways, and each Way's odds, prizes, and ticket costs.
